K’Nex Blocks for $10 on Walmart.com

Both of my kids have birthdays this month. Relatives are sending money in the mail and the kids are excited to pick out some new toys and purchase some things that they have been wanting. One of the things that Cuddlebug enjoys playing with is K’Nex blocks.

Walmart has two sets of K’Nex blocks on sale for $10.00 each.

Kid K’Nex Big Building Tub was $20 and is now $10.

K’Nex Super Value Tub with 325 pieces was $21.88 and is now $10!

I just ordered the super value tub that has over 300 pieces.  Site to store shipping is free.

Enjoy!

Thanks, Baby Cheapskate!

$1 Clearance Sales at Walmart

I dropped by Walmart today for a few things and was surprised to find a $1 rack of clothing. A few times each year Walmart clearances their clothes down to $1. When they have this sale it is a good time to stock up on things for the family.

When clothing is this inexpensive it is easy to purchase items for other people.

Have you found any $1 deals lately?

Stockpile Opportunity: Sweet Potatoes

November 22, 2010 by The Thrifty Mommy

It’s time to stockpile sweet potatoes.  I’ve been waiting for a big sale and Walmart has them for only $.28/lb.

Each year, I make a sweet potato casserole for Thanksgiving and Christmas.  This reminds me . . . I need to share that recipe with you soon.  Today I purchased about 10 lb of sweet potatoes from Walmart.  Food Lion also has them on sale for $.33-.49/lb, depending on your area.

In case you’re wondering, sweet potatoes are usually on sale again for Christmas.

Money Saving Tip: Always Compare Prices

August 11, 2010 by The Thrifty Mommy
Filed under food, money saving tips

When shopping for groceries, normally you would think that store brand groceries would be a lot less expensive.  This is not always the case.  It is always important to compare prices and I’ll show you why.

The White House brand 6-pack of applesauce is $1.76.

The Wal-Mart or Great Value brand 6-pack of applesauce is $1.92.  That’s about 8% more than a major leading brand.

Here we have some examples of yogurt.

The Dannon 32 oz container of yogurt is $1.96.

The Yoplait 32 oz container of yogurt is $2.14.

And the 32 oz container of Wal-Mart yogurt is $2.28, which more than any of the other two leading brands!

Many people assume that the generic/store brand will be less expensive than other brands and so they automatically grab the store brand products.  As you can see here, store brands are not always cheaper.  And I have to tell you folks, these are just two examples.  I have seen many other products done this way.

If you’re a coupon user, you can get the leading brands for even less money when you use your coupons.  I frequently receive coupons for $.50 off the large Yoplait yogurt.  You can’t get coupons for store brands, which means there’s even less savings.

Today a friend of mine posted a facebook link to this story, Wal-Mart Quietly Raises Prices.  Honestly, I had originally planned to title this article, “Watch for Rising Prices at Walmart” but decided to make this more of a money saving tip about comparing prices, no matter where you shop.  I will say though that I have done less and less grocery shopping at Wal-Mart during the past year.  It is so much cheaper for me to shop the grocery store sales for items that our family frequently uses.  I also try to stock up during triple coupon and super double coupon sales.

Have you found store brands to be more expensive than other brands?

Today’s Bargains 3/31/10

March 31, 2010 by The Thrifty Mommy

Hi everyone. I hope you’re having a great day.  I’m done with triple coupons. My cabinets are so full and I’m thankful for the terrific deals.  I admit that I am exhausted from four days at Harris Teeter, clipping coupons, substitute teaching, blogging, along with the regular housework and mommy duties.  Whew! I need a nap.  ;)

My first stop today was Wal-Mart.  I’ll spare you the details of my frustration of returning an unopened item which took 30 minutes and a manager’s involvement.  <sigh>  Anyway . . .  Coupons.com has a few coupons on their site for $2 off select DVDs.  Many of these are DVDs which should cost about $5 each.  Today I was only able to find two of the ones I was searching for. I’m sure the other larger Wal-Mart carries the others, so I’ll just have to wait until next week when I shop there.  If you want these coupons, be sure to print them at Coupons.com today before the March coupons are gone.  These DVDs will come in handy next week when the kids are home from school.

My next stop was Dollar General. My local DG has had a lot of great clearance deals lately. I have been stopping by a few times each week and have found some terrific bargains.  Today’s deal is the cereal shown above.  I got the Toasties cereal for $1/box.  The date is good until November so I picked up 10 boxes.  With my three kids home for summer, it won’t take us long to use it.

Have you found any bargains this week?  Feel free to leave a link or details in the comments.
