Harris Teeter Super Doubles 3/23-3/29

March 20, 2011 by The Thrifty Mommy
Filed under Deals & Sales, Harris Teeter

I know it’s hard to believe but it’s already time for Super Double Coupons at Harris Teeter. Last time they had the sale I shopped four times stocking my cabinets and freezer with inexpensive and free grocery items.  It was tiring but the savings has really helped our grocery budget.  I plan to shop several times during this sale to stockpile again.

During the super double coupon sale Harris Teeter will double coupons of $1.98 or less.  They will double 20 coupons per day per VIC card.

Tips for shopping: I usually do not clip every coupon and file it. I usually keep all of the coupon inserts from the Sunday paper and then flip through them searching for coupons worth $1.00, $1.50, and even $.75.  I sort the coupons by store placement and paperclip them together.  Then I can unclip them when I am in that particular section of the store.  This system works well for me and avoids a lot of extra clipping and filing.

Do you have a coupon system that works well for you?

Added later: Be sure to check out the other coupon match-ups herehere, and here.

Send Expired Coupons to Overseas Military

March 5, 2011 by The Thrifty Mommy
Filed under Grocery & Couponing Tips

Every few months I go through all of my coupon inserts and pull out all of the expired coupons. It’s quite a stack. Rather than throwing them into the trash I do put them into the recycling bin which makes me feel a little bit better about the situation. I’ve heard for a while that I can donate my expired coupons and I just need to take the time to do this.

The Overseas Coupon Program serves military families by assisting you to forward manufacturer’s coupons to overseas military bases.  The bundles of coupons are placed on tables, at the PX and Commissary, or handed out for use by military members and families on base.  Military famlies can use them for up to six months after they expire.

To sign up to send coupons  just visit the website, and click on Base Adoptions to browse the list of bases that you can mail your coupons to. After you choose a base, send an email to adoptions@ocpnet.org to let them know you will be participating. You can find more details and information.

The coupon packages are sent to APO/AFO addresses so you don’t have to worry about the cost of overseas shipping.

Do you donate your expired coupons?

Wordy Wednesday: Vintage Coupons

It just dawned on me that today is Wordless Wednesday. It is almost impossible for me to post pictures without some sort of blurb about them. Today’s pictures are kind of interesting.

I’ve been wanting my mom’s old coupon box for a while. I meant to get it from her last summer and forgot so while I was visiting in January I made sure to get it.

I opened up the box expecting to find a bunch of expired coupons. I was quite surprised when I found these old coupons.

I don’t know about you but I found these pretty humorous. Humorous because when is the last time you saw a coupon for $.12? There are so many coupons for small amounts like $.20.

None of these coupons are expired. They all have “no expiration date” on them.  I’m thinking of taking some of these to use at Harris Teeter and seeing what happens.  I can only imagine the looks I’ll get.  I know some of these products are no longer being manufactured.

As of now I can’t really decide what I’m going to do with all of the coupons but I thought you all might like to see them.

What do you think I should do with the coupons?
